The future is AI and people

At an event last week, a fellow entrepreneur made a comment that really made me dig deep and think. They said building the business I'm building must be particularly difficult due to the pervasiveness of AI.

Oomph!

Yes, building my business is hard, but most of the challenges I face aren't AI-related; they’re an inside job. Real talk: I spend more time battling self-doubt and fighting imposter syndrome than I do worrying about technology.

AI is not my adversary.

I use it to help streamline certain operational and data-driven tasks. Like any tool, it has great value when used thoughtfully. The heart of my business is connection. People connecting with people. The business leaders I'm drawn to work with aren't looking for volume. They're looking for the right words to help communicate with the audiences they're called to serve. And they want those words to reflect their values – who they truly are.

That's why I called my business Authentic Impressions; not artificial or superficial impressions. I'm looking to help brands show up confidently using real words that create genuine connection leading to meaningful business results. And I believe there will always be a place for human-centered connection. My personal faith is rooted in this, and ultimately that's what people want. It's why we were so glad to gather again post 2020.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am acutely aware that AI has resulted in companies downsizing and good, talented people losing their long-held roles. It's sad and it's frustrating. But I don’t think that’s our future. We, as a society, can recognize there is a place for both technology and humanity in the workplace. AI helps us process, summarize, and generate. People create meaning through storytelling and genuine connection. We will figure out a healthier balance between efficiency and authenticity because it truly does take all of us for the world to spin ‘round.

As for me and my business, I'll keep doing what I've always done. Listening actively. Reading and learning all I can. Writing, always writing. Ultimately, helping brands show up with real words and genuine stories to make true connection. Because that's the kind of work that matters to me.

And fortunately, it's the kind of work that AI can't do alone.
